Give Different Page Number Formats to Different Sections of a Document

This step-by-step tutorial shows you how to add different page numbers to different sections of your document. These steps are for Microsoft Word 2007.

Step 1

To have different page numbers on different sections first we”ll have to break the document in to sections. To do this click on the Page Layout tab in the toolbar

Step1

Click on The Page Layout Tab

Then Click on the Breaks button on the tab, the one that is highlighted in the image above.

Step 2

Now you can select the type of section break you need. select Next Page.

This will break your document into two different sections.

Step 3

Now to add the page numbers :

To add numbers to the first  section click somewhere in the first section of the document.

Select the Insert tab in the Word toolbar and then click on the Page Number button  then select Format Page Numbers from the drop down list.

A Window like the one shown below should appear.

here you could make changes to the format. Say if you want the first section of the document to be in roman numerals just select the format through the combo box and select OK.

Step 4

Now Click somewhere in section two of the document and then go to “Format Page Number” window as explained in step 3

In the window, click Start at, and then set to 1 as shown below, so that the second section starts from number 1, here too you could change the numbering format if you want to.

After you click OK you should see different page numbers on the different sections.

That”s it we are done!

If you have any problems please let me know through comments i will try to help.
